4 Reasons Why APIs will Likely Expand in the Future

AR: Always Romantic

It's no surprise that API and API-based development is on the rise. The API economy has been booming recently, with huge companies like Google, Facebook, and Amazon leading the way.

The aforementioned is happening because API-based solutions give developers a robust set of tools to create new business opportunities and generate more revenue (a win-win for both parties). In this article, we’ll discuss 4 reasons APIs are likely to expand in the future, so be sure to read on!

Familiar Programming languages

Programming languages such as Python allow anyone familiar with object-oriented programming concepts to begin working within minutes - it's that easy! Convergence between AI and API development means we'll see an increase in applications that focus on data consumption through information search rather than presentation - there won't be much user interface.

Truly Dynamic Capabilities

API-based development allows businesses to focus more on their core competencies, which increases overall efficiency within the company. Dynamic API services are entirely scalable - meaning they can scale up or down as needed for peak usage times without having to invest in expensive infrastructure upgrades beforehand. According to Gartner Research predictions, the API economy will continue growing exponentially over time, reaching a point where every major business field has adopted API technology into its workflow processes by 2020.

Increasingly Popular

APIs are becoming increasingly popular among major corporations. It also implies that connecting will display your data more attractively and seamlessly with information collected from various data sources. Fortunately, because of ease of functionality and learning, its growth in popularity has been a savior. Moreover, because of its general plug-and-play fundamentals, users relish its automatic stickiness among various technologies. Especially if you do not have a comprehensive full-stack of knowledge from your computer science degree, nor have experience working with API's, no problem!

API is creating the foundation, better yet, the new frontier for web development, adaptive software, AI, IoT, and pretty much the new and next wave of computer integration.

The API Economy opens doors for the Web

DEV Responsibly

The API economy is having a significant effect on the enterprise world. API stands for application programming interface, which you can think of as "application language." This will allow people to get more out of their data by connecting it with other sources that may be useful or relevant. API has emerged into its own platform and ecosystem - Google's Apigee recently purchased API management provider Mashery, while Amazon Web Services (AWS) subsidiary API Gateway acquired Layer Seven in recent years. However, integrating APIs takes up some time and resources, so they are best used in cases where companies need flexible access to information from another company's databases - but don't want to invest in full-scale business relationships with them. The API opens doors for the Web.

The API economy is alive and well - all thanks to API's ability to integrate different software applications seamlessly on the Web. If users want their APIs available over internet/cloud platforms, they need an app server or scalable cloud backend services like Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Services. In short, API facilitates information exchange between machines using language-agnostic protocols such as REST & SOAP etc., allowing businesses to focus on what matters most: their core competency. API has become an integral part of many businesses (including ours) and expected to grow even more in the Future!

This is just the start of our series, come back for Part 2 as we look more at APIs.
